Preschool | 2.5 – 5 Years
Lona is one of the three teachers running the preschool program. She is also the Assistant Director. In the absence of the Director she will be the person to contact. The Preschool program gives your child an opportunity to play and learn and develop the intellectual, physical and social skills he/she needs to grow. There are three teachers in the preschool room. 7:00-8:00 a.m. Arrival and Free Play children are allowed to explor different learning centres e.g. language, math, art, sensory, science daily living. Dramatic Play – Daily living centre – children pretend play – be a mom/dad doctor, nurse, dentist, policeman etc. Build train tracks, be a fireman 8:00 -9:00 a.m. Continued free play – Breakfast time By 9:00 a.m. the children are involved in a variety of activities such as Book Area Centre:
Language/Communication – An opportunity for children to build their vocabulary through reading (picture read individual). Teacher child interaction group reading/sharing self expression, time to share feelings, socialization children are encouraged to read write and spell – their names
Art & Creative – Children use art to express themselves and develop their creativity.
Motor skills – paining, cutting scissors, pencils and markers for mark making and printing
Twice daily children are taken outdoors to playground-gr5oos motor movement soccer, running mini basketball, bike ride continued pretend play/walking in the neighbourhood.Music drama-Children are introduced to multicultural music, songs books etc. Self help skills – putting on their own clothes, tie, shoes laces, zip zippers, feed themselves and encourage children to problem solve challenges are based on each child’s ability.Cognitive – a variety of puzzles of alphabets, numbers, multicultural animals, occupation, and a lot of cognitive activities. Science/Sensory– opportunity for children to learn about plants and animals things in our environment . (Preschoolers have their own garden in front of window outdoors) where they visit and attend to the plants. Sensory:– They use a variety of sensory materials such as clay, playdough, sand, corn meal, water etc.
